Google Review

By Shane Gotfrey

Google is quite possibly one of the most popular search engines today, and has somewhat earned that right. Using it is simple and straightforward, with multiple different kinds of search limiting. One could limit the search to only yield links that contain only the desired multimedia maps, images, video, academic articles and much more. This makes it a very powerful tool for doing research for almost any subject. It provides free access and has a relatively large database. It does have a few cons. First, when searching for an obscure subject it can sometimes give results that are not really very relevant to what you are searching. Second, it is after all a business and therefore tends to sometimes be somewhat ad based, especially on the first few pages of a search. Its use of page popularity ranking for the display order is limiting, and it lacking many Boolean characters is annoying. Overall, Google is a very good search engine and is perfect for most average computer users and most power users will find it useful for a starting point in their research.
