Members of the class will be divided into five groups. Each group will be assigned one type of internet research tool: search engine, metacrawler, web directory, invisible web content directory or search engine, blog search engine.
Here is the schedule for the project:
First Week: Investigate sample tools and decide what features the ideal tool would have. Determine criteria for evaluating the group’s assigned type of tool.
Second Week: Evaluate as many tools as feasible to determine the best ones. Select as many top-ranking examples as there are members of the group. Assign one of the tools to each member of the group who will write a review of the tool on the wiki following as closely as possible and appropriate the reviews at Search Engine Showdown (http://www.searchengineshowdown.com/reviews/). Create a page on the wiki for each review and link to it on the page for the groups’ assigned type of research tool.
Third Week: Each group will present its evaluation criteria in class, and each member of the group will demonstrate for the class one of the top-ranking tools that the group evaluated.
